Took the Keltec Sub2000 out today
Man, this thing is a tack driver! I was shooting some excellent groups at a indoor range, mostly at about 25 yards. Makes a excellent backup or bugout gun for a vehicle or backpack.
Got mine off gunbroker for about $375 :565: Also shot the AK and Glock 23, and had no failure to feed with all guns. Good times... :emotions16: |
Re: Took the Keltec Sub2000 out today
I love my Sub2K and keep it in my GHB. It's accurate and easy to shoot, but I've had constant FTFs due to light primer strikes. I bought the gun used, and when I first broke it down for cleaning, it was filthy, loaded with sand and grit. I thought I'd cleaned it pretty good that first time, but the FTFs have been persistant.
I tore it down last night for another cleaning, this time with the goal of removing the extractor and firing pin, but only managed to get the extractor out. I need a better punch to remove the firing pin, since the one I have is cheap and kept bending. Still, getting the extractor out let me clean things up a lot better. When the extractor spring fell out, it looked like a solid cylinder of mud and sand. With the extractor out, you should be able to look in the slot and see the spring for the firing pin... I saw brown gunk, with only a hint of spring. This poor gun had been so abused before I bought it. I cleaned everything thoroughly, even soaking the bolt and firing pin assembly in a bottle of Hoppe's 9 solvent, and got it looking much better. Hopefully that solved the problem... now I just need to get to the range to test it. One of my friends also has one, and he's had no FTFs at all, but there were a few FTEs during the initial break-in. After a couple hundred rounds, he has no problems with it at all. I'm really thinking about buying a second one, this time new so I know the history. |
Re: Took the Keltec Sub2000 out today
Sub2000 is a fun gun to shoot. I have the 9mm glock mag version and it eats everything. Never had a FTF or FTE with mine...

I've got the same version Luft and I've never had any issues either.

Re: Took the Keltec Sub2000 out today
Once I get this gun in .40 s&w My collection will be complete.
I still curse myself weekly for not getting a few dozen cases of these guns when they were $200 new not too long ago. I knew at the time they were way undervalued and I still procrastinated........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. as a side note at the last gun show I met a fellow trying to sell his used one for $375 (hah!) and he said If the gun is in folded position and you pull the trigger you completely bugger the gun up. any confirmation on this? |
Re: Took the Keltec Sub2000 out today
I wish they made one compatible with Glock 21 mags, as well as making some extended cap Glock 21 mags :)

Re: Took the Keltec Sub2000 out today
I was impressed, 1.5"-2" grouping out of the box, standing position with no sling.
Wowzers. Guy at the range had to ask me to slow my rate of fire....I was having too much fun. |
Re: Took the Keltec Sub2000 out today
I wish I could find one - been looking for one in .40 for the better part of a year now.

Re: Took the Keltec Sub2000 out today
From what I was told they are released a couple times a year, a manufacturing cycle or something. Get your local dealer to put all his feelers out for ya, that's how I got mine. I got lucky and had it in about 10 days.

Picked up a .40 off of gunbroker last summer. It's a hoot with the 29 round glock mags...

Re: Took the Keltec Sub2000 out today
Just got back from the range checking to see how my thorough cleaning the other day did, and over all I'm pretty happy.
I put 50 rounds of Winchester white box 115gr FMJ through it with no FTFs, but several FTEs, 3 on the first mag of 10, 1 on the second mag of 15, 1 on the third mag of 15, and 1 on the fourth mag of 10. Then I tried some Remington 115gr FMJ. It doesn't like the Remington ammo... I had 3 FTFs out of 10 rounds, and 1 FTE. Just to make sure it was the ammo and not the gun getting dirty, I ran another 15 rounds of Winchester white box ammo through it and had no FTFs, but one more FTE. As long as I feed it the Winchester ammo, it seems pretty happy, but now I need to take care of the FTEs. I was using two different factory Glock 33 round magazines. http://www.shoden.org/images/firearm...3_FTF_text.jpg http://www.shoden.org/images/firearm...1_FTE_text.jpg Nice group, but 10 yards is pretty easy with this gun. http://www.shoden.org/images/firearm...FTE_text_2.jpg A little more challenging, but I still managed a nice jagged hole with 6 out of the 15 shots, and the other 9 weren't too bad. All high though. http://www.shoden.org/images/firearm...FTE_text_3.jpg |
Re: Took the Keltec Sub2000 out today
Just got back from another trip to the range shooting the Sub2000. I'd read over at KTOG that the lighter 115gr bullets might not be heavy enough to fully cycle the action, which could be the cause of my FTEs.
I managed to hunt down a bulk pack of Ultramax 125gr non-jacketed rounds and ran 30 of them through the Sub2000, using 3 magazines of 10 rounds each. I had NO FTEs and NO FTFs :23_30_104: |
Re: Took the Keltec Sub2000 out today
Sorry, that is completely unacceptable reliability. I just ran 200 rounds through my primary rifle from 3 different brand new 30 round mags without a flaw of any kind. 3 different manufacturers' ammo.
